Don Heater, Montana Tech

Don was born in Helena, MT, in 1950 and attended high school in Thompson Falls, MT. He attended Montana Tech of the Frontier Conference, where he set three NAIA records and fourteen school records. He was named to the NAIA All-America Team in both his junior and senior seasons. He ended his college career with over 4,000 rushing yards. In 1971, the New York Times wrote an article that said scouts had Heater rated higher than future Vikings running back Ed Marinaro. Heater was selected in the 1972 draft, 135th overall, by the St. Louis Cardinals but was waived prior to the season. After being picked up and later waived by the Green Bay Packers, Heater returned to St. Louis and played in two games for the Cardinals.
